THE Resilient ones

IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19, i TEAMED UP WITH SENSE NEW YORK TO CREATE A SERIES OF ILLUSTRATIONS DESIGNED TO BRING COLOuR AND RESILIENCE INTO THESE UNKNOWN DAYS.

When I was creating the illustrations I wanted to design vivid, striking images with a message that’s relatable and straight forward, in times which feel anything but.
The illustrations were sent weekly as a pop of positivity in your mailbox, and were accompanied by a mailer of uplifting and positive resources.

PART 1 ‘WE’LL MEET AGAIN’ Draws on the British Roots of Sense NYC and celebrates Elizabeth’s candid and inspiring address to her citizens.

PART 2 ‘NEW YORK TOUGH’ pays homage to the agency’s home, one of the worst hit cities, and the collective strength and solidarity of New Yorkers, together with Governor Cuomo’s masterclass in leadership. The illustration itself depicts the exterior of a iconic NY city building and the people behind their windows. Reflecting the solidarity of lockdown.

PART 3 ‘LEAN ON ME’ celebrates the incredible coming together of the global community that’s taken place to care for one another and beat the crisis. This image and text was chosen, not only to pay tribute to the late, great Bill Withers, but also because of the powerful words ‘Lean on me’ which resonates with so many people who are supporting or being supported my friends and family at this time.

PART 4 ‘THANK YOU’ marks the relentless courage and dedication of critical workers, some of whom have sadly lost their lives to save others and help rebuild the world. The illustration captures the faces of some of those everyday heroes include the late Kious Kelly (NY) Ketty Herawati Sultana (Jakarta) and Li Wenliang (Wuhan).
