RECLAIMING THE NUDE
An empowering illustration series created to rewrite the narrative around the female nude.
Drawn in a style that emulates the classic Sailor Jerry pinup girls, the idea was to shift the perception that an image of a confidently naked and beautiful woman is specifically for the male gaze. Women should be encouraged to own both their sexuality and their nudity in a way that isn't dictated by decades of patriarchy or through a male lens.
The illustrations are of a diverse range of women drawn in a typical pinup style but doing activities that are non-sexualised and every day, from watching Netflix to shaving their legs, removing a tampon, reading, taking a selfie. (All whilst looking great!) The accompanying illustrations emulate traditional tattoo compositions but with tongue and cheek copy to flip the commentary.
